Activists disrupt The District property fair

Protesters detonated stink bombs at Madrid's Ifema venue to demonstrate against real estate speculation and rising eviction rates.

Three activists disrupted the inauguration of The District real estate fair in Madrid on Tuesday by detonating stink bombs and scattering pamphlets. Security personnel at the Ifema venue quickly intervened to evacuate the group following the targeted protest.

The demonstration criticised regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso and mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida for welcoming speculators. Pamphlets claimed Madrid saw 25,000 evictions in 2025, stating the event, previously held in Barcelona, is not welcome in the city.

This marks the first time the fair has moved to the capital after four years in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. Previous editions faced significant unrest from housing rights organisations, including incidents where attendees were targeted with paint by protesters.
