DANA Storms Trigger Orange Alerts Across Spain

Meteorologists warn of intense rainfall and gales as a DANA weather system brings severe storms to Galicia, Madrid, and northern Spain.

A DANA weather system positioned west-northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, combined with a subtropical moisture stream, is set to trigger intense storms across Spain. Meteorologist Samuel Biener expects conditions to worsen from the afternoon of 6 October.

AEMET has activated orange warnings across the northwest. High-risk areas face rainfall of 40-60 l/m², with 20-30 l/m² possible in short periods. Impacted regions include Galicia, Asturias, Castilla y León, Madrid, Extremadura, and the Pyrenees of Lleida.

The severe weather brings risks of hail and significant gales. Widespread downpours are forecast for Castilla-La Mancha and the Basque Country, while Andalusia faces irregular, high-intensity rain. Residents in Huesca and Cáceres remain under high alert.
