1 September 2026 at 13:21

> Driven by a 14.3% surge in energy costs, Eurozone inflation reached 3.3% in August, remaining significantly above the ECB's 2% target.

Eurozone inflation climbed to 3.3% in August, according to advanced data released by **Eurostat** on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. This headline figure marks a significant increase, driven largely by energy prices which surged 14.3% year-on-year during the month.

The report shows energy costs accelerated from a 10.3% rise in July, as Brent crude oil prices have jumped nearly 41% since the start of 2026. While services inflation eased to 3%, fresh food prices rose 2.7% and industrial goods increased by 1.2%.

The 3.3% rate remains well above the **European Central Bank**'s 2% target, despite underlying inflation moderating to 2.1%. Regional disparities persist, with Lithuania recording 5.8% and Spain 4.5%, while Estonia saw a lower price increase of 1.3%.
