# Feijóo calls for early elections after defeat 2 October 2026 at 17:12 > PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo demands a general election following the rejection of two government housing decrees in the Spanish Congress. [Alberto Núñez Feijóo](), president of the [Partido Popular](), has called on [Pedro Sánchez]() to dissolve the Cortes Generales and trigger early elections. This demand follows a significant legislative defeat for the Government of Spain in the [Spanish Congress](). Two housing decree-laws, approved by the Council of Ministers on the Tuesday before 2 October 2026, were rejected. The first failed 178 to 172, while the second fell 184 to 166. [Junts per Catalunya](), the Partido Popular, and Vox all voted against the measures. The defeat coincides with protests near Congress by Puerta del Sol campers. As the CCOO union considers mobilization schedules, the rejection of these decrees highlights growing instability for the Sánchez administration and its current legislative agenda.
