# Feijóo to back Hernández de Cos for ECB presidency

> PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo will endorse the former Bank of Spain governor for the top European Central Bank role at a Brussels summit.

**Alberto Núñez Feijóo**, president of the Partido Popular, is set to announce his support for **Pablo Hernández de Cos** to lead the **European Central Bank**. The endorsement will be made during a **European People's Party** summit in Brussels, backing the candidate.

The move follows a proposal by **Pedro Sánchez**'s government three weeks ago. Hernández de Cos, former Bank of Spain governor and current Director General of the Bank for International Settlements, faces competition from Dutch candidate Klaas Knot for the role.

The presidency of the Frankfurt-based bank is decided by eurozone member states. While Christine Lagarde currently holds the position, this rare domestic political consensus comes ahead of Spain's scheduled general elections on 29 November 2026.
