The measures, first introduced on 1 August after a crisis in Ceuta, involve random checks to mitigate risks of terrorist infiltration. While Madrid has requested the removal of these restrictions, Rome maintains that internal security threats remain high. Since August, [Italy]() has screened over 180,000 travellers from Spain, resulting in 31 entry refusals and six arrests.
