Junts to submit new housing decree to government

Junts per Catalunya demands the withdrawal of two recent housing decrees as it prepares to submit its own proposal for national policy.

Junts per Catalunya will submit a proposal for a royal decree on housing to the Spanish government this Friday. The party's National Executive is demanding the withdrawal of two existing decrees, approved on Tuesday, ahead of a scheduled Congress vote.

The contested measures include eviction suspensions, rental extensions, and tax increases for SOCIMIs. One decree, published Wednesday, aims to stop investment funds buying homes at deep discounts, while the second focuses on automatic rental extensions.

These government decrees followed social protests over the eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen Abascal in Madrid. Junts intends for its new proposal to serve as the primary basis for negotiations with the PSOE regarding future national housing policy.
