# Madrid's oldest bookstore Pérgamo to close 13 October 2026 at 16:42 > The historic Pérgamo bookstore will leave its original 1946 site in Madrid this November after the owners declined to renew the lease. **Pérgamo**, the oldest bookstore in **Madrid**, is set to close its doors at **Calle del General Oráa**, 24, after the property owners refused to renew the rental contract. The historic establishment, founded in 1946, will remain open to the public until **17 November**. The current management team, led by manager **Pablo Cerezo**, took over the business five years ago following the retirement of the previous owners. Despite the loss of their long-standing premises, the team is actively searching for a new location to relocate. The closure marks a significant shift for the city's literary heritage, ending nearly eight decades at its original site. The search for a new venue continues as the management aims to preserve the legacy of the business beyond its mid-November departure. #Pergamo [#Madrid]() #Bookstore #Literature #Culture ## Related news ## [Margarita Robles to be PSOE number two in Madrid]() 14 October 2026 at 20:01 ## [King Felipe VI to lead 2026 Fiesta Nacional parade]() 12 October 2026 at 08:17 ## [Police dismantle burglary gangs in Madrid and Catalonia]() 10 October 2026 at 15:24 ## [Woman dies after eviction in Madrid's Retiro]() 8 October 2026 at 11:55 ## [Maricarmen Abascal dies aged 87 after eviction]() 8 October 2026 at 08:20
