# OCU report: Supermarket prices up 39.5% since 2021

The **Organization of Consumers and Users** (**OCU**) has released its 2026 supermarket report, revealing that shopping basket costs have surged by 39.5% since 2021. The study analysed 101,520 prices across 690 physical and online stores to track inflation trends.

Data shows ground [coffee](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/coffee-q8486>) prices rose by 142%, while size M [eggs](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/eggs-as-food-q93189>) increased by 135%. Other significant rises since 2021 include milk chocolate at 101% and orange juice at 93%. In 2026 alone, fish prices climbed by 8.6% and meat by 3.7% across the retail sector.

The report confirms that 61.8% of all items tracked have increased in price. [Fresh produce](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/produce-q1913301>) rose by 4.7% on average this year, with tomatoes and lemons up by 33.2% and 25.2% respectively. These figures highlight the sustained pressure on household food budgets.
