[#ÓscarPuente]() [#PedroSánchez]() # Óscar Puente Eyes Future PSOE Leadership Role 24 August 2026 at 21:00 > Transport Minister Óscar Puente signals interest in succeeding Pedro Sánchez as party leader while ruling out a return to local politics. Minister of Transport **Óscar Puente** announced he may run to succeed **Pedro Sánchez** as PSOE leader in four or five years. Speaking to Europa Press, Puente predicted Sánchez will step down after the next legislature, despite the leader's goal to govern until 2031. Puente confirmed he will not seek the Valladolid mayoralty again after losing the post in 2023. He advocates for completing the current mandate through the 2027 elections while maintaining a stable coalition with Sumar despite disputes over nuclear energy. The Minister also addressed judicial tensions, accusing the Supreme Court of rebellion regarding the Amnesty Law for Carles Puigdemont. These remarks come as the government navigates internal policy shifts, including extending the Almaraz nuclear plant. ## Related news [#Ceuta]() [#Spain]() [#Migration]() [#SupremeCourt]() [#PedroSánchez]() 27 October 2026 at 12:50 ## [Court rejects Ceuta's urgent migrant return bid]() > The Spanish Supreme Court has denied Ceuta's request for an immediate migrant expulsion plan following a mass entry of 70,000 people. #SpainTimeChange #WinterTime [#PedroSánchez]() #DaylightSaving #SpanishSleepSociety 23 October 2026 at 17:25 ## [Spain to switch to winter time on 25 October]() > Clocks will go back one hour this Sunday as Spain transitions to winter time amid ongoing government debates regarding the practice.
