# Prosecutor backs CERA census suspension

> The Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office supports suspending census reviews for the November elections to protect voting rights for 163,020.

The [Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/prosecutor-general-of-the-state-q3406493>) has submitted formal allegations to the [Supreme Court](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/supreme-court-spain-q19746>) regarding the census of Spanish residents living abroad (CERA) ahead of elections on 29 November. It supports suspending census review actions for this process.

The census closed on 1 August, but the Government wants all who gained nationality under the 2022 [Law of Democratic Memory](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/democratic-memory-law-q109236282>) to vote. The [State Attorney's Office](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/ministry-of-the-presidency-justice-and-relations-with-the-cortes-q123521326>) says it is impossible to review 168,896 registrations before the deadline, citing a 2027 target.

Legal appellants including [Vox](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/vox-political-party-q15630787>) are involved in the proceedings. The State Attorney warns that 163,020 Spaniards face losing their fundamental right to active suffrage without a hearing, as the Supreme Court's 48-hour deadline for party allegations expires.
