# Prosecutors seek acquittal for Begoña Gómez 7 October 2026 at 15:23 > The Prosecutor's Office has requested the acquittal of Begoña Gómez and her advisor regarding a non-remunerated university chair case. The Prosecutor's Office has requested the acquittal of [Begoña Gómez](), wife of Spanish Prime Minister [Pedro Sánchez](), and her advisor **Cristina Álvarez**. The case, overseen by Judge **Juan Carlos Peinado**, concerns a non-remunerated chair at [Complutense University](). Gómez received zero euros for co-directing the chair until 2024. Software developed for the project was privately funded and registered to the university. Prosecutors state Álvarez's role as an assistant has existed in all Spanish governments since 1978. While Judge Peinado claims Álvarez's hiring was fraudulent due to university-related emails, regulations do not require degrees for directing such chairs. These positions aim to attract private funds and do not offer remuneration to those in leadership roles. #BegonaGomez [#PedroSanchez]() [#Spain]() #ComplutenseUniversity [#LegalNews]() ## Related news ## [Spanish Supreme Court voids private university law]() 8 October 2026 at 18:21 ## [Spain confirms national public holidays for 2026]() 8 October 2026 at 15:59 ## [Spanish prosecutors: PSOE charges are premature]() 8 October 2026 at 10:48 ## [Spain calls snap general election for November]() 5 October 2026 at 09:58 ## [Begoña Gómez to face trial in September 2026]() 21 September 2026 at 17:00
