Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has called an early general election for 29 November 2026. The announcement, made on Monday 5 October, follows the failure of the Congress of Deputies to pass two royal decrees regarding housing measures on 2 October.
Sánchez informed the King before convening an extraordinary Council of Ministers to dissolve the Cortes Generales. Under the LOREG, the vote occurs 54 days after the call, which will be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on Tuesday 6 October.
Voters in Spain can request mail-in certificates at Post Service offices from 6 October until 19 November. Documentation will be sent by 23 November, with a final deadline of 25 November to submit completed, postage-free ballots to the polling stations.
