# Spain faces late September heatwave up to 40C

[Spain](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/spain-q29>) is set for prolonged heat as the [State Meteorological Agency](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/state-meteorological-agency-q2826727>), Aemet, predicts temperatures 5 to 10 degrees Celsius above late September norms. Spokesperson **Rubén del Campo** confirmed that northern areas may see anomalies exceeding 10 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday, 24 September 2026, highs will reach 34C in [Galicia](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/galicia-spain-q3908>) and 36C in Extremadura and Andalusia. By Saturday, the [Guadalquivir valley](<https://spainnews.co.uk/entity/baetic-depression-q523854>) could hit 40C, while Madrid and Seville face 34C and 38C respectively on Friday, despite isolated showers in Tenerife.

A thermal decline begins Friday in the north, reaching the western peninsula by Sunday. A weather front arriving Monday, 28 September, will likely bring rain to northern and western regions, finally returning temperatures to normal values for the season.
