Spain's State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, issued a special warning on Wednesday regarding a severe weather episode forecast to begin on Thursday, 1 October. Heavy rain and flood risks are expected to persist across the country until at least Monday, 5 October.
Intense rainfall will start in the interior east before moving towards the levante. Accumulations may exceed 150 litres per square metre within six hours in Castellón, Valencia, Alicante, and Tarragona. A DANA is expected to isolate in the west by Sunday, 4 October.
The situation follows significant rainfall in the Cantabrian region and Galicia during late September. While weekend precipitation will cover large areas of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, the intensity is forecast to be lower than the initial peak.
