Spain probes real estate portal over rental ads

The Ministry of Social Rights initiates a sanctioning file against a Spanish property platform for alleged unfair commercial practices.

The Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and 2030 Agenda has opened a sanctioning file against a real estate portal in Spain. Initiated by the Directorate General for Consumption after a CECU complaint, the probe targets alleged unfair commercial practices.

Under the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users, serious infractions carry fines up to 100,000 euros or six times the illicit profit. This marks the first time the Ministry has held a platform directly responsible for such administrative offences.

New regulations require rental ads to include price reference indices, previous contract rates, and landlord status. The Ministry will now monitor large portals to ensure compliance with these advertising obligations for housing across all Spanish cities.
