# Spain's minimum wage set for 4.9% rise in 2027

4 November 2026 at 15:58

> A Ministry of Labour expert group proposes raising the monthly minimum wage to 1,281 euros to maintain worker purchasing power in Spain.

A **Ministry of Labour** expert group has recommended a 4.9% increase to **Spain**'s **minimum wage** (SMI) for 2027. This proposal would raise the monthly gross salary from 1,221 euros to 1,281 euros across 14 payments, aligning with the year-on-year evolution of prices.

The committee, comprising academics and union members, calculated the 60-euro rise to maintain purchasing power and reach 60% of the average net salary. While unions seek a 7% hike, the government plans to approve the new rate before the **November 2026 elections**.

The adjustment affects 2.5 million workers and will include a tax deduction to exempt the SMI from **income tax**. Since 2018, the wage has risen from 736 euros. Regulated by decree, the change requires no parliamentary vote but faces ongoing union negotiations.
