Spain's [Ministry of Labour](), led by Vice President [Yolanda Díaz](), has convened the Advisory Commission for the Analysis of the Minimum Interprofessional Salary for 8 October 2026. The government aims to raise the minimum wage for 2027 before the November elections. The current monthly rate of 1,221 euros represents a 3.1% rise from 2025, a year when business groups [CEOE]() and Cepyme rejected the increase. Since Pedro Sánchez took office, the SMI has risen from 736 euros, while prices grew by 23% between then and 2025. Unions [CC OO]() and [UGT]() seek an immediate 2026 increase to combat 4.9% inflation reported in September. As these adjustments are approved via royal decree without parliamentary votes, the move ensures the 60% average salary target is met before the general election.
