Spanish doctors postpone strike until after vote

Medical unions in Spain have delayed their indefinite strike following the announcement of general elections scheduled for 29 November.

Medical organisations across Spain agreed on Wednesday to postpone an indefinite strike originally scheduled to begin on 28 October. The decision, involving groups such as CESM, SMA, and SME, follows the announcement of general elections for 29 November.

The industrial action was called to protest the Ministry of Health's reform of the Framework Statute, which regulates working conditions for National Health System staff. Unions state the reform will now lapse until a new government is formed in the autumn.

Demands include a specific regulatory framework for doctors, an end to mandatory shifts, and improved retirement conditions. The strike call remains in effect, and the committee will present its demands to the incoming Executive after the national vote.
