Spanish prosecutors: PSOE charges are premature

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office rejects the PP's request to charge the PSOE as a legal entity pending further investigations.

The Spanish Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has informed Judge Santiago Pedraz that charging the PSOE as a legal entity is currently premature. This report follows a request from the Partido Popular to investigate the party for five specific crimes.

Prosecutors identified indications of bribery and influence peddling but noted that key proceedings remain pending. These include the testimony of former Organization Secretary Santos Cerdán, who is accused by the PP of attempting to obstruct justice.

Under Article 31 bis of the Penal Code, legal entities can face criminal liability for crimes committed for their benefit. The PP alleges the PSOE lacked adequate controls to prevent illicit activities intended to protect the governing party's interests.
