An explosion occurred at the Faculty of Chemistry in Tarragona on Monday morning, leaving three people injured. The detonation took place at approximately 09:17 within a practical laboratory on Marcelli Domingo Street during the manipulation of chemicals.
Emergency services responded rapidly, with the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) confirming the incident via X. Three ambulances were deployed to treat the casualties, while the Bombers de la Generalitat sent seven land units to secure the university site.
Specialist teams, including the Grupo de Apoyo en Incidentes con presencia de riesgos tecnológicos (GRIT), participated in the emergency response. The intervention ensured the area was safe following the chemical accident, which remains under investigation.
