> The US Federal Maritime Commission proposes port fees and import sanctions against Spain following a trade investigation into port access.

The **US Federal Maritime Commission** has proposed a $200,000 fee per voyage for all **Spanish-flagged vessels** entering American ports. This follows a formal investigation launched in December 2024 into claims that **Spain** created unfavourable trade conditions.

The FMC identified a policy of denying port access, citing incidents in November 2024 where **US-flagged ships** were barred from **Algeciras**. Proposed sanctions also include import restrictions on Spanish oils, cosmetics, ceramics, stone, and confectionery goods.

This regulatory action aims to address practices deemed detrimental to US foreign trade. The FMC has requested public comments and will offer the Spanish government a formal hearing before any final resolution is adopted regarding these maritime penalties.
