Woman dies after eviction in Madrid's Retiro

A woman named Maricarmen died following an eviction by National Police from a property owned by Urbagestión in the Retiro district.

A woman named Maricarmen died on the night of 7 October 2026 following her eviction from a rental property in Madrid's Retiro district. The National Police executed the order at the request of Urbagestión, the company that owned the residential premises.

Opposition spokesperson Manuela Bergerot claimed Maricarmen suffered seven years of real estate harassment by a vulture fund, stating every eviction bears the People's Party signature. She warned there will be no peace in the city's streets after this death.

President Isabel Díaz Ayuso defended her record, claiming 44% of rental housing has collapsed under Pedro Sánchez. She argued current camping protests are directed at the central government, citing high travel spending by the Secretary General of Housing.
