> The Spanish Society of Neurology warns that stroke remains a leading global killer, with 90,000 new cases reported in Spain every year.

**World Stroke Day** is observed on 29 October, with the **Spanish Society of Neurology** highlighting that stroke remains the second leading cause of death globally. Each year, 12 million new cases occur, resulting in over 7 million deaths across the world.

In **Spain**, 90,000 new cases are reported annually, causing 23,000 deaths. One in four Spaniards will suffer a stroke, yet only 50% can identify symptoms like sudden limb weakness, speech difficulty, vision loss, or intense headaches for urgent treatment.

While mortality has fallen by 60% in **Western Europe**, cases have risen 70% in 30 years. The **SEN** estimates 90% of strokes are preventable by managing risks such as high blood pressure, smoking, and obesity to protect the two million neurons lost per minute.
