AEMPS bans El Toro over undeclared sildenafil

The Spanish health agency has withdrawn the product El Toro after laboratory tests revealed it contains hidden medicinal ingredients.

The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has ordered the immediate withdrawal and cessation of commercialisation for the product El Toro. The Asturias Higher Police Headquarters alerted the agency to the sale of the undeclared substance.

Laboratory testing confirmed El Toro contains sildenafil, a PDE-5 inhibitor used for erectile dysfunction. Despite being marketed as natural, its pharmacological composition classifies it as a medicine. Sildenafil increases blood flow by inhibiting enzymes.

The undeclared ingredient poses severe risks, including potential cardiac death, stroke, or arrhythmias. It is contraindicated for those with heart failure, hypotension, or hepatic impairment, as it can interact dangerously with other medical treatments.
