Spain warns of menopause drug shortage extension

The Aemps alerts that Lenzetto and Evopad supply issues could persist past November 2026 due to manufacturing problems and high demand.

The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (Aemps) warns that the shortage of Lenzetto, a menopause symptom spray, could extend beyond November 2026. Manufacturer Gedeon Richter cited device issues and high demand affecting multiple European nations.

Bexat Farmacéutica has ceased marketing Estradot patches, while Evopad, the only state-funded alternative, faces shortages until November 2026. Although Estraderm supply remains stable, Oestraclin Gel is currently excluded from National Health System funding.

Aemps has escalated these supply incidents to the European Medicines Agency to coordinate a response. Currently, no pharmaceutical companies have formalised requests for state funding for Lenzetto alternatives, impacting hormone treatment access across Spain.
