Bolaños appeals CGPJ decision on Judge Peinado

Justice Minister Félix Bolaños has appealed to the Supreme Court after the CGPJ archived his complaints against Judge Juan Carlos Peinado.

Félix Bolaños, the Minister of Justice, has appealed a decision by the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) to archive complaints against Judge Juan Carlos Peinado. The CGPJ ruled that Peinado's actions in the 'Begoña case' were jurisdictional activity.

The dispute follows a 2025 interrogation where Peinado warned Bolaños his status could change to investigated. Bolaños alleged the judge demanded a raised platform during the testimony and paused proceedings for thirty minutes to allow for information gathering.

The appeal will now move to the Supreme Court's Third Chamber. While four conservative members and Carlos Hugo Preciado supported archiving the case, two members dissented. Judge Peinado is currently scheduled to retire from the bench on 27 September 2026.
