The Boletín Oficial del Estado has published the forced retirement of Judge Juan Carlos Peinado, effective from Saturday 26 September 2026. The magistrate, who turns 72 on Sunday, concludes a decade leading Madrid's Juzgado de Instrucción 41 after the CGPJ.
Peinado recently opened a trial against Begoña Gómez, wife of President Pedro Sánchez, for alleged influence peddling and embezzlement. His career includes probes into former footballer Raúl González Blanco and the 2016 Usera law firm triple murder case.
The retirement ends a tenure marked by high-profile investigations, including the interrogation of the President at La Moncloa. Despite Peinado's request to extend his service, the CGPJ order formalises his departure from the judiciary he joined aged 40.
