Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat, has proposed a ban on artificial intelligence in schools for children under 14. This follows earlier Department of Education restrictions and aligns with a new Health report linking screens to developmental delays.
Data shows 82.4% of young people own mobiles, with the average first access at 10.8 years. Subdirector Laura Conejos notes that 92.5% have social media profiles, while 23% of students aged 14 to 18 exhibit signs of compulsive internet use during leisure time.
The Generalitat intends to codify these health recommendations into law to address risks like anxiety and learning interference. This regional move coincides with European Commission studies regarding a potential social media ban for minors under 15 years.
