Catalonia suspends classes amid red weather alert

The Generalitat has halted school and health activities in five regions due to torrential rain and strict mobility restrictions.

The Generalitat has announced the suspension of classes and non-urgent health activity this Wednesday across Baix Llobregat, Vallès Occidental, Garraf, Alt Penedès, and Baix Penedès. Interior Minister Núria Parlon confirmed mobility will be strictly limited.

A level five danger alert from Meteocat, active between 07:00 and 17:00, predicts torrential rain and violent storms. Civil Protection is issuing ES-Alerts to mobile phones, while officials recommend teleworking and avoiding all non-essential travel today.

In Barcelona, emergency plans for drainage are active following record September heat. Residents are advised to secure roofs, disconnect appliances, and bring pets indoors as the region braces for mistral winds, tramontana, and a sharp drop in temperatures.
