Electricity prices surpass 200 euro threshold

Wholesale electricity costs will rise to 201.99 euros per MWh this Tuesday, marking the highest daily average recorded since late 2022.

Wholesale electricity prices will average 201.99 euros per MWh on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, according to OMIE data. This marks a 2.6% rise from Monday's average of 196.88 euros. Costs will peak at 281.31 euros between 21:00 and 22:00, with a low of 147.09 euros.

This surge represents the first time the daily average has exceeded the 200 euro threshold since December 2022. It follows a volatile September where prices averaged 143.26 euros per MWh, a 21.1% increase from August and a 134.7% rise compared to September 2025.

The price hike impacts eight million households on the regulated PVPC tariff. For 2026, this tariff calculation relies on futures markets for 55% of its reference. Meanwhile, natural gas prices in the Mibgas market reached 75.25 euros per MWh on Monday 5 October.
