Jordi Hereu named PSC candidate for general election

Salvador Illa nominates Industry Minister Jordi Hereu to lead the Barcelona list for the upcoming general elections on 29 November 2026.

Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat and First Secretary of the PSC, has designated Jordi Hereu as the party's candidate for the general elections on 29 November 2026. The announcement was made during an extraordinary national council in Barcelona.

Jordi Hereu, currently serving as Minister of Industry and Tourism, is proposed to lead the Barcelona list. This nomination requires organic ratification on Friday 16 October, when the full composition of the electoral lists will be officially confirmed.

Illa criticised Junts for blocking housing decrees, comparing their current influence to the era of Jordi Pujol. While Miriam Nogueras rejected supporting both left and right-wing blocs, Illa stated Alberto Núñez Feijóo does not deserve Catalan support.
