Madrid court investigates Sofía Puente for prevarication

Judge Inmaculada Lova Ruiz admits a complaint against the Director General regarding expanded nationality criteria under the Memory Law.

Madrid's Investigating Court number 35 has admitted a complaint against Sofía Puente for alleged administrative prevarication. Judge Inmaculada Lova Ruiz is presiding over the case, which was brought by Hazte Oír despite opposition from the Public Prosecutor.

The legal action targets an instruction drafted by Puente as Director General of Legal Security. This directive expanded the criteria for Spanish nationality under the 2022 Democratic Memory Law, allowing descendants of exiles to claim citizenship until 1955.

The has already suspended voting rights for those who gained nationality via these expanded rules. While prosecutors argued the case was previously dismissed, Hazte Oír must now pay a 1,000 euro bail to proceed against the Transport Minister's sister.
