A mass transfer of approximately 3,000 migrants from Benítez and Trampolín beaches to the port of Ceuta began on Friday morning, 18 September 2026. The operation, authorised by the Audiencia Nacional, saw migrants break through security cordons to enter the site.
Government sources state the port camp currently holds 1,800 people, with a further 2,000 places under review. However, JUPOL Secretary General Aarón Rivero claims the government failed to guarantee sufficient capacity or resources before starting the transfers.
The SUP union, via spokesperson Ana Alarcón, has asked the Audiencia Nacional to halt the camp due to security risks following police charges. JUPOL reports that only 70 of the 170 UIP agents deployed in Ceuta are currently assigned to these specific transfers.
