Spain has extended border controls for travellers arriving from Italy by air and sea for a further 15 days. The extension, signed by Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, was published in the Official State Gazette on Tuesday and remains in effect until October 22.
This marks the third extension since controls began on August 8, 2026. The measures were initially introduced following Italian government actions regarding travellers from Spain after 72,000 people entered Ceuta, citing threats to public order and security.
Authorities will permanently evaluate the situation to determine if the controls can be terminated before the scheduled expiry date. The restrictions will only be lifted if the motivating threats to public order disappear, ensuring ongoing border monitoring.
