Spain's economy expanded by 0.7% in the second quarter, according to final data from the INE. This figure is one tenth higher than the previous quarter and confirms the advance estimate from July. Year-on-year GDP growth has now reached a rate of 2.6%.
Domestic demand drove the increase, with household consumption rising by 1.2%, a jump of nine tenths over the prior period. Gross fixed capital formation grew by 1.4%, up four tenths from the first quarter, while the construction sector recorded 1% growth.
The results mark twelve consecutive quarters of growth at or above 0.5%. Both the Spanish Government and the OECD forecast 2.6% growth for the full year, despite rising oil prices. This sustained performance underscores the current resilience of the economy.
