Spain sees record 12.3m tourists in August 2026

International visitor numbers and spending surged by 9.2% this August, contributing to a record-breaking 70.4 million arrivals this year.

Spain welcomed 12.3 million international travellers in August 2026, a 9.2% increase compared to the previous year. Total tourist spending for the month reached 17,838 million euros, matching the 9.2% growth rate seen in visitor numbers from August 2025.

The United Kingdom remained the top source market with 2.4 million visitors, who spent 3,366 million euros. France and Germany followed, while Switzerland saw a 29.3% surge. Average daily spending rose to 202 euros, with individual stays averaging 1,455 euros.

The figures contribute to a record eight-month period, with 70.4 million arrivals and 99,892 million euros in total spending. Catalonia and the Balearic Islands led regional results, reflecting a robust 8% annual rise in accumulated national tourism revenue.
