Forest fire triggers confinement in Benahavís

Authorities have ordered 9,500 residents to stay indoors as emergency crews battle a forest fire near the A-7175 road in Málaga.

A forest fire broke out near the A-7175 road in Benahavís, Málaga, on Sunday, 13 September 2026. The Infoca Plan declared the blaze at 13:07 after emergency services received initial alerts at 12:40. Emergency phase 1, operational situation 1, was activated.

Authorities decreed preventive confinement for the urban centre of Benahavís, affecting 9,500 residents, and the La Coja urbanisation. Antonio Sanz, Minister of Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, advised closing all windows and protecting vulnerable groups.

The response includes 23 forest firefighters, two Brica brigades, and four helicopters ranging from light to heavy. Supported by three technicians and a pumper vehicle, crews are working to contain the fire and ensure the safety of the local municipality.
