Gabriel Rufián to lead ERC list for Barcelona

Esquerra Republicana selects Gabriel Rufián to head its Barcelona candidacy for the upcoming general elections on 29 November.

Gabriel Rufián is set to lead the Esquerra Republicana list for Barcelona in the upcoming general elections on 29 November. The party executive will formalise the candidacy of the current leader in the Congress of Deputies during a meeting on 11 October 2026.

Internal party meetings are scheduled for 20 October to approve the final candidates for both the Congress and Senate. This follows a joint candidacy announcement between ERC and EH Bildu for the Senate, repeating a formula previously utilised in July 2023.

Rufián has proposed a plurinational coalition including Sumar, Podemos, EH Bildu, and BNG. However, Oriol Junqueras stated ERC will stand in Catalonia while Bildu and BNG contest their own regions, despite the ongoing cooperation between the left-wing parties.
