Judge rejects Zapatero's bid to annul Plus Ultra case

A Spanish judge has dismissed a request by former PM Zapatero to nullify an investigation into alleged influence peddling and laundering.

Judge José Luis Calama of the has rejected a request from former Prime Minister to declare the Plus Ultra case null. The judge dismissed claims that the probe into alleged influence peddling violated his rights.

The defence sought to exclude evidence from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, alleging illicit analysis. The case, involving a 2021 public rescue and 2025 money laundering probe, saw searches at Zapatero's office and a partial freeze on his accounts.

Judge Calama ruled there was no attempt to manipulate the choice of judge. The investigation remains significant following the 2025 search of the airline's headquarters and the discovery of jewellery in a safe at the former president's private office.
