Iustitia Europa has filed an urgent request for precautionary measures with the 's Third Chamber to suspend the electoral effects of those registered via the 'grandchildren's law'. This instruction was prepared by Sofía Puente, sister of Transport Minister Óscar Puente.
The party demands that votes from the Census of Absent Residents (CERA) be kept separate and under custody by electoral boards. They argue these should not be counted until the Government identifies the specific parent from whom each nationality derives for all registered members.
By late August 2026, over 195,872 nationalities were granted under this route, with 134,405 more pending. President Luis María Pardo seeks to block registrations linked to the Puente instruction before the November 29 elections to ensure full identification of all files.
