Spanish farmers plan Madrid tractor protest

Agricultural unions will demonstrate in Madrid on 28 October to protest rising costs and demand stronger policy protections for farmers.

Spanish agricultural unions Asaja, COAG, and Unión de Uniones have announced a major tractor demonstration in Madrid on 28 October. Protesters will gather outside the Ministry of Agriculture under the slogan 'We produce your food, we deserve to live from our work'.

The demonstration targets rising production costs, specifically agricultural diesel prices, and non-compliance with the Chain Law. Organisers are also demanding a stronger Common Agricultural Policy, reduced bureaucracy, and protection against third-country competition.

The UPA union will not participate, choosing to postpone state-level action until after the 29 November elections. UPA argues the current electoral process limits government action and plans to present its proposals directly to political parties for their manifestos.
