A Spanish naval officer with 35 years of service has been removed from his post at NATO's Allied Maritime Command in Northwood. The officer was escorted from the base on 20 June 2025 following a security investigation into his relationship with a woman.
The officer met Janina White, a British-Polish national born in Soviet Russia, on Tinder in October 2024. Security concerns arose after she attended a base Christmas party. White later claimed a Russian agent questioned her about the officer's work in Russia.
Spanish authorities terminated the officer's assignment on 29 July 2025 after suspending his security clearance. While the officer returned to Spain, White faces no charges. The case highlights NATO security protocols regarding personal ties to Russian assets.
