Spanish Royals Begin State Visit to Finland

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia arrive in Helsinki to discuss EU and NATO security cooperation with President Alexander Stubb.

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain arrived in Helsinki on 6 October 2026 to begin a state visit. They were received at the Presidential Palace by President Alexander Stubb and Suzanne Innes-Stubb, alongside Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares.

The leaders discussed a 360-degree security alliance within the EU and NATO, addressing the northeast, east, and southern flanks. King Felipe highlighted the Atlantic as a shared link, while Spain seeks NATO solidarity for its southern border and Ceuta.

The visit continues in Lapland at the Arktikum Museum and the Lapland Air Force Wing. Following the Ankara summit, the Spanish Army will deploy to the Jaeger Brigade, which guards 350km of the 1,300km Finnish-Russian border against strategic threats.
