CIS Barometer: 80% of Spaniards concerned by housing

New data from the CIS Housing Barometer reveals that over half of Spaniards are very concerned about the nation's current housing crisis.

The Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS) published its Housing Barometer on Thursday, 8 October 2026. Data shows eight out of ten Spaniards are concerned "a lot" or "quite a lot" about the national housing situation, with 51.6% being very concerned.

Based on 6,019 interviews across 1,243 municipalities, the study reveals 41.6% of respondents feel harmed by the current crisis. This is the third specific housing study by the CIS, following 2014 and 2018, with data collected between 22 June and 30 June.

While 52.6% feel unaffected, the widespread concern coincides with the republication of two housing royal decrees in the BOE on 7 October. The findings highlight a significant social issue, as only 11.7% of the population report little or no concern at all.
