The European Parliament has approved a resolution calling for rapid returns and the shielding of the Ceuta border. Passed with 339 votes in favour, the text describes recent events as an instrumentalisation of irregular flows and a tool of hybrid warfare.
The resolution demands Morocco fulfils its border control commitments, stating that partnerships must respect EU territorial integrity. It notes that the Spanish government delayed requesting Frontex and Europol reinforcement until late August 2026.
While the EPP, ECR, and Vox supported the measure, Socialist MEPs and the PSOE voted against it. A separate resolution has demanded an independent investigation into the July border assaults, with Vox seeking a special commission to examine the events.
