Five arrested for racist assault in Valencia

Civil Guard officers have detained five people following a violent attack on a Moroccan man during festivities in Tavernes de la Valldigna.

The Civil Guard has arrested five individuals, including two male minors, following a violent racist assault in Tavernes de la Valldigna, Valencia. The victim, a Moroccan bricklayer named Mohamed M, suffered a triple jaw fracture requiring surgery and a prosthesis after being chased and kicked by a group during local Sunday festivities.

A video recording of the five-minute attack captured the group shouting racist slurs, including "to Morocco", while repeatedly striking the victim. Three adult men arrested between Wednesday and Thursday are due in court this Friday. Government Delegate Pilar Bernabé confirmed the arrests following reports from the group Valldigna Antifeixista.

The incident is part of a wider pattern of violence reported that night, with a second assault occurring just 20 minutes later. A 20-year-old man of Senegalese descent also suffered a jaw fracture requiring surgery. These targeted attacks have raised significant concerns regarding public safety and hate crimes during the region's annual celebrations.
