The has arrested Carlos García Roldán, known as 'Charly', at a residence in Barcelona on Thursday morning. The alleged leader of the Lujo Casa real estate scam had been a fugitive for nine months following a warrant issued by the Balearic court.
Roldán was sentenced to 14 years and nine months for aggravated fraud, money laundering, and criminal group membership. He failed to attend a hearing in Palma after claiming he could not find flights, despite having previously been extradited from Colombia.
The Lujo Casa scam defrauded over 230 victims of approximately 3.3 million euros through thirty unbuilt property developments. Two partners were also convicted in the case, which remains one of the most significant real estate fraud investigations in the region.
