PNV to back anti-eviction decree in Spain

The PNV confirms support for the anti-eviction decree to tackle housing fraud despite rejecting a separate rental extension proposal.

The PNV has confirmed it will support Pedro Sánchez's anti-eviction decree during the Permanent Deputation, a session convened to validate two decrees previously rejected by the Congress plenary. Parliamentary spokesperson Maribel Vaquero described the measure as a patch but necessary to address current housing issues.

Vaquero noted that habitual rental housing in Euskadi has decreased by 28%, while seasonal rentals have surged by 52%. The PNV supports this decree as it includes measures to prevent habitual rentals from becoming seasonal housing, a practice the party characterises as a fraud of law enabled by the 2023 Housing Law.

While backing the anti-eviction decree, the PNV will vote against the Sumar-led rental extension decree. Vaquero instead advocated for modifying the Land Law to accelerate administrative processes. The party also clarified it will not align with Vox regarding any potential government formation after 29 November.
