The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Thursday that Minister José Manuel Albares met Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita at the UN in New York. Morocco reiterated its commitment to the return of irregular migrants currently held in Ceuta.
Morocco has officially requested the readmission of its citizens who crossed the border irregularly since late July, including minors. The Moroccan government described current migration cooperation with Spain as both coordinated and highly effective.
Minister Albares emphasised that Spain will not discuss its territorial integrity, including Ceuta and Melilla, with any party. The bilateral relationship remains guided by the 2022 joint declaration and mutual respect for national sovereignty.
